History of The Christian Tabernacle Church
The Christian Tabernacle Church was founded by the late Reverend Anderson G. Sands, in 1958. For ten years the church building was located on Taylor Street. The church relocated to its present location at No. 20 Robinson Road in October 1968.
During the decade of the early 1970’s The Christian Tabernacle Church became an affiliated member church of both The Bahamas Christian Fellowship Association and The Church of the Nazarene. However, its affiliation with The Christian of the Nazarene was short lived.
The Christian Tabernacle Church was shepherd by its founder until July 11th, 1992 when he quietly went from his labor to receive his reward.
In 1993, during the midst of difficult times for The Christian Tabernacle Church, God raised up and anointed a Pastor after his own heart, in the person of Apostle Christopher Russell Sr., to lead this congregation.
After four short years of pastorate in 1997, under the leadership of Apostle Christopher Russell the foundation for the new edifice was laid at the back of the pre-existing Sanctuary. In April 1998, the entire structure of the former church building was demolished and a new sanctuary was erected. On September 5th, 1999 we dedicated our new edifice that we now worship unto the Honor and Glory of God.
Ever since the dedication of the new edifice, Apostle Russell was determined to continue fasting and praying, as we did in the previous Sanctuary. In keeping with this, every month the first Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday are consecrated unto the Lord in fasting. The Lord has prospered this House spiritually, financially and numerically. People are not just being added to the House, but their souls are being saved and their lives are being transformed.
In the year 2000, our Children’s Ministry was established, and for the first time the doors of The Christian Tabernacle Church were opened Monday thru Friday, 9:00am To 5:00pm to cater to the needs of its members and visitors alike. During this same year our Soup Kitchen Ministry was fully implemented.
In February 2001, the congregants of The Christian Tabernacle Church were overwhelmingly blessed when our Pastor became full-time in the House of the Lord. In April of this same year we saw the inauguration of our Annual Family of Island Crusades.
And for all these accomplishments we humbly say, “TO GOD BE THE GLORY!”
